The unsolicited views from three non-owners of my acquaintance. :)

The wife:
“What is that?”
Me - It’s the one that goes ding.
“Looks a bit cheap”
Me - Whatever.

The daughter:
“That looks a bit different. What’s all that metalwork?”
Me - It chimes every hour.

The two year old grandson:
“Watch”
Me - Well Rory it is a sonnerie au passage. It goes ding.
[Mrs nbg interjects - don’t bore him!]
[Rory grabs watch and tries to push button]
“Grandad’s ding watch”

The following day he checked my wrist and said “ding watch”. :)

And yes a two year old (three in three months time) does know what a watch is. Obviously someone has been trying to indoctrinate him.

So there you have it - in our family myself and a two year old are the most impressed with the Bel Canto.

^^^ Interesting piece of scientific research. I’m not sure what conclusions that can be drawn from it though, is there some correlation between liking a Bel Canto and any other shared interests?

@nbg Ypu might be on to something there, I am aware of the Octonauts undersea adventures, but like the Bel Canto I’m not really a fan.

Maybe CW need to sign up Captain Barnacles as a brand ambassador.

I don't know why but I'd like to hear from Bel Canto buyers who've found it's not a watch for them.
I'm not really able to help you here, Pete. Sorry.

It's not the easiest of watches to read the time on, but then it's my only watch with a subdial sized dial for the main time and there are plenty of those from high end Manufacturers, so it's got to be an okay feature.

I've got used to it and maybe I don't look at it to 'tell the time' as often I would a regular watch; it's more the feel good factor of wearing something iconic (I can say that. Can't I?) and evocative.

The chime is distinctive, delightful and quite subtle, but not quiet. I don't hear it every time; but I'm not expecting to.

I really like the Titanium #5 case; proper tool watch stuff and hard as nails; beautifully finished, mostly brushed but with polished bevelled edges. It's not an all polished dress watch.

Bluntly; it's a watch for me and it's not going anywhere.
tikkathree wrote: Sun Feb 12, 2023 5:58 pm I'd like to hear from Bel Canto owners who regularly/frequently/usually turn the chime off - if the watch doesn't chime what's it for?
The chime stays on 24/7/52 for me. :D :D

Not much help I'm afraid to say but I have to call it as I see it.

Now then…I may be wrong here, but did you not say the same thing about that Powerglow before you audaciously off-loaded it without me knowing…🙈?

I very much enjoy the dialog available on this website.

For folks who are not all in regarding the Bel Canto, what are your feelings related to the Grand Seiko constant force tourbilon?

^^^^ well the GS is a very different watch and at a price which makes it completely unobtainable. However even if this was sold for a much lower price, my thoughts are pretty much the same as they are to the Bel Canto, impressive but not for me.

^^^ Apples and oranges. Discuss it by all means, but is this the right thread? It might be better to start a new one.
