Re: Another Bel Canto thread: this one's for the non-owners, the unbelievers
Question for Bel Canto owners:
Given that there is no seconds hand, obviously you cannot hack the movement and release it at a precise second. If you want to set it at exactly the top of the hour, is there a ting to indicate that it is set precisely? If not, I can only assume that the next ting will take place somewhere within the correct minute or so.
My assumption would be that pulling the crown out to set the hands temporarily deactivates the sound. Is that right?

Not an owner but on the review videos they demonstrate the chime by pulling the crown and advancing the hands to the next hourAmor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 9:59 amMy assumption would be that pulling the crown out to set the hands temporarily deactivates the sound. Is that right?

^^^ Thanks so much, Olly! That does seem to suggest that you can set the ting to the precise second.

^^^ I was merely solici-ting a little advice as I am evalua-ting the options with a view to possibly contac-ting CW and appropria-ting a black dial model after the given wai-ting time.

Chris told me it was more than a few forum members, hence the offer to change the hands. IMHO CW have got the hands wrong with the Bel Canto, this thread alone has proved that legibility is an issue.Bahnstormer_vRS wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 9:29 am As far as I am aware CW changed the hands on the C900 SPC (there was no MkI / MkII) for a vocal group of some half a dozen CW Forum members.

Might be able to set the precise second but without a second hand it’s hard to measure whether the watch is running + or -.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 10:12 am ^^^ Thanks so much, Olly! That does seem to suggest that you can set the ting to the precise second.

What handset would you suggest for the BC? It always seems difficult to me to have an easily readable handset on a skeletonised dial. Although the BC is not fully skeletonised, there is no base dial/platina under the clock section. The selected hands seems as good as any to me. Many handsets would not be in keeping with the styling of the watch, I feel.
Re: Another Bel Canto thread: this one's for the non-owners, the unbelievers
That’s exactly the question I was trying to answer last night and I couldn’t come up with answer as there is no base to contrast with. You are also absolutely right many hands would not be in keeping with the dial styling. Hence, the overall design makes the Bel Canto difficult to read in everyday wear.

I like the sunburst dial and the colors. Nothing else about the watch appeals to me at all.
Regardless of the technical accomplishment it may represent, I don't get the point of the hourly ding, a complication that was brought over from, and was actually useful in, pocket watches. I don't get the point of small time-telling dials (from any manufacturer that produces them) and I don't get the poor legibility.
In summary, I don't get it.

So here's the answer: dismount the watch from the bracelet, pop it in a little chamois leather/suede case and pop it in your pocket. Pocket watch - brilliant. (Note to self: search EBay for pocket watch with striking complication...)FloridaPhil wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2023 2:13 pm I like the sunburst dial and the colors. And just outside the castle, there'll be lots of salu-ting and stru-tting.

Of course it’s not as legible as a standard size of a hockey puck three hander with contrasting hands!
That doesn’t mean it’s particularly difficult to tell the time on a Bel Canto (my sample of one!
