gwells wrote:right, but once you choose the watch that you want to include in your collection, don't you look for the best price? or if it's at the edge (or outside of) your price range, do you just pounce immediately or wait for an opportunity (or actively try to create one, by say, negotiating with an AD)?
I can sympathize with this view. The point I was trying to make was that a committed collector will rarely be influenced in his purchase solely by a bargain price.

I can see Robin's point. There is a difference between buying the watch you want at the best available price or buying a watch because it's a nice price.

I started doing the latter, but I've now realised that (for me) there is more satisfaction in the former.

The only point is that a person can be BOTH.

There's nothing wrong with being picky. As you may have noticed, we're all pretty picky here.

i don't think there's much reason to be on either extreme. i'm a bargain hunter, but i don't buy *because* of the bargain, i just want the best bargain for the thing i want.

that said, obviously finances have an effect on our choices and a bargain would be the only way we could achieve some goals.

I had similar thoughts when considering my Aristo back in 2007. In the end I went for the Chronometer version
(at nearly double the price). This time round I went for the basic Trident 60. However, back in 2012, when offered
my sister's 10 year old BMW 320d SE for relative little money £2500 (brand new she paid just over £30,000 with the extras), or keep my ultra reliable SEAT Arosa, I went for the BMW. Sold the Arosa in the same week for £750.
(Result I'd say).
