Nothing wrong with a Longines. I am a big fan. My choice would be the new Flagship Moonphase. Anyway, I was also going to posit that there is a possibility that she is just attracted to the dial and the look over the moonphase itself.

Take another look at the C1 it is listed at 40.5. That is still larger than the C63 which is actually 39mm though. Do you have any at 40mm/41mm she could try on?

One thing I have learned in this game is that looks will override a lot of perceived flaws. If she likes the looks she will probably wear it even if it is a little large. My wife likes the slightly larger watch look as a fashion thing. She routinely wears my C60 42mm around. I haven't measured her wrist but I doubt I could get a watch sized for her over my hand.
It also looks like the JJ04 module wraps around the SW200, increasing the overall diameter of the movement and necessitating a larger case.

The Aventurine dial is certainly attractive, but she pointed out the big moonphase as what caught her eye. I think she likes "cool" complications like that. I mean, it is pretty cool.

I won't hold my breath, in that case! No pun intended.

There's a Welly Merck Moonphase on AliX resembling the CW versions also for around £100
Are you on commission?
Ha ha.

Seeing homages appear on AliX is good and bad. I keep looking at the Proxima Watermelon Chronograph, similar to the Studio Underdog for quite a bit less.

It was a total shock when I saw the Welly Merck. Not such a great name either, Welly Merck. It might be good in real life though, but it's a pain buying stuff to find out, and not liking it. The cost of these cheap watches still adds up.

JAFO wrote: Fri Aug 23, 2024 1:45 pm Good luck. Certainly the decorative moon disc only watch, with no other detail on the dial might wear very attractively on your wife irrespective of her wrist size.
It's a minefield. I'm currently leaning towards this Longines, which is actually cheaper than the CW at Chisholm Hunter at the moment. She does like the look of the big moonphase though.

Although not exactly pocket change, I wonder if there's any mileage in buying one of those Sugess watches from Aliexpress to see how she likes the size and style before shelling out more. Do you have a link to the one you bought?
I agree. Small Moonphases are a bit meh when you've seen the CW versions, although they are an elegant complication. I went close with a Raymond Weil Maestro, and a Montblanc Moonphase previously.

This is the Welly Merck.

This is the Sugess, which is in other similar styles and colours.

My partner has the moonphase plus C60 Concept both look good on her. The only downside is she won't lend either to me.

I've impulsively bought the Sugess suggested by JAFO - it was like £99 with discount codes, so not exactly "cheap" but cheap enough to be an impulse purchase. I'll see what it looks like on my girlfriend before committing to any big spend, and if she doesn't like it, I can maybe keep it, or give it to one of my kids.

@TheArmoursmith - I'm sure the C1 Moonphase will be fine.

As has been said, it's only 40.5mm and if she copes well with your, chunkier, 40mm C60 Trident 300 you'll be okay.

The Moonphase really is quite a svelte watch with a pretty flat caseback that sits low on the wrist. It's also got a low profile bezel and, with the dial devoid of indices, there's less to 'stand out' and make it seem large. Team it up with a Consort bracelet and you're onto a winner.

The unique feature of the C1, compared certainly with any quartz Monphase, is the perpetual transition of the moon, as opposed to a daily 'step' (like a date).

If, at the end of the day, it all goes horribly wrong you can always get a new girlfriend  use CW's 60/60 and return it. :D
