A Joy from the Watch Box
A Joy from the Watch Box
Working from home, I have been wearing sportier watches. So, today I decided to wear something dressier.

Re: A Joy from the Watch Box
A lovely watch. The only things that held me back were the lack of minute indices and the lack of a seconds hand. Gentle regret.

Re: A Joy from the Watch Box
It's a simple yet beautiful dress watch. It's a pity it was discontinued, but the market for dress watches clearly just isn't what it was, Covid certainly hasn't done anything to reverse that.

Re: A Joy from the Watch Box
I liked it a lot when it was released but it reminded me too much of Nomos, and I already had the Orion.
Maybe I'm biased as a Nomos fan, but I think the 595 would have looked even cooler with blued hands.

^^^^ I like blue hands too. But, in this case this case the black hands match the black printed indices and Cordova strap.

You've got to kind of wonder why CW didn't keep it going, even as a slow seller.
The R&D / production setup had been done and it's not competing with any other watch in the range, so what's the harm?
It would look good with a Swish only logo @ 12.

Re: A Joy from the Watch Box
I know I have ridden this hobbyhorse a few times before, but we know that model longevity is and has been an issue. I wonder what sort of production run they had originally, because when they appeared in a sale there didn’t seem to be too many of them, and they disappeared quite quickly.Bahnstormer_vRS wrote: ↑Sun Jul 17, 2022 8:49 am You've got to kind of wonder why CW didn't keep it going, even as a slow seller.

Re: A Joy from the Watch Box
The 595 was using the ETA/Peseux 7001 movement. Now that it's hard (if not impossible) to source ETA movements, does Sellita have an equivalent to that? I don't think so. If not, maybe that's the reason it can't be revived even if they wanted to.
It's a very slim movement. If something else is used, the case has to be worked and it won't be that slim anymore.

Re: A Joy from the Watch Box
I just checked Sellita's website. They have the equivalent of the handwound ETA 2801 (the one that's in the CW Slimline) but that's still thicker and larger than the 7001.
On the other hand, Stowa is still using 7001 movements in their Antea, and their larger handwounds still use ETA/Unitas, though their automatic models now use Sellita.
Maybe some handwound movements are still available from ETA/Swatch?

Re: A Joy from the Watch Box
Beautiful but, I think, its era has passed
. I think a dress watch has increasingly become an occasional wear watch and, as such, it makes sense to perhaps pay a little less. I’m thinking of course brands like Orient though it’s worth noting Chinese watches keep on getting better.
That said, do consider trying that dress watch with your scruffiest jeans and oldest t-shirt. The contrast might make it pretty workable.
