A Destro revolution..
Hey all, I’m new to the group on here & only recently started to build up my own watch collection but the one thing I’ve found really frustrating is the lack of a really good ‘destro’ watch.
I’m actually right handed but always wear my watch on my right wrist & im pretty sure I’m not the only one who falls in to this category!
I know it’s maybe a little too niche but there does seem to be demand for a CW Destro version, even if just as a limited edition version. I just wanted to see what others thought though.
If there was a limited edition CW Destro released, would you be interested? Thanks

I wouldn’t be interested for myself (left-wearing left hander) but if there’s a demand, why not?DestroPhil wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 12:13 pm If there was a limited edition CW Destro released, would you be interested? Thanks

Re: A Destro revolution..
I can think of a few destro watches that many would regard as good…
Rolex GMT Master II with green/black bezel
Tudor Pelagos LHD
Various Panerai
I think IWC and Sinn have also produced destro models.
I am primarily left handed and wear a watch on my left hand. No particular interest in a destro.
Perhaps one way CW could try and gauge if there is demand for a CW destro would be to search the forum and the various CW FB groups to find out if it is something that has often been mentioned.

Re: A Destro revolution..
32 forum mentions since 2008, Neil. Average of one every 6 months. Deduce what you will from that.
Mind you, it has probably been mentioned in other terms, such as left-hand crown - I’m not sure everybody would be familiar with the term Destro.

It’s definitely a niche subject/request but that would also make it a bit of a collectors piece too. Although it does seem like there isn’t a cue of people out there

At the end of the day it’s what they think will sell. I’ve been nagging for years for a rectangular (not square) men’s watch in a wearable size and not come close.

A cut and paste list.
Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster (BJ8050-08E)
Nixon 51-30 Chrono
Mulco Buzo Helio
Sinn U1000
Hamilton Khaki X-Wind
I suppose you could create a LH version, you'd only have to rotate the dial 180º, hoping that the date lined up in the window.

If it's a basic three hander you'd like to turn into a destro then is it just a case of rotating the dial 180°? Can't hurt to ask if it's something they'd do on assembly.

^^^ You could ask. But I suspect the answer would be no.

Italian for “right”. “Left” is “sinistro”. From Latin, Dexter and Sinister.gannet wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 6:22 pmI for one wasn't until today. Every day's a school dayAmor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 4:54 pm I’m not sure everybody would be familiar with the term Destro.
From which we derive dexterity and sinistrality. In Mediaeval times left-handedness was sometimes seen as a diabolical association.
Ambidextrous literally means having two right hands, which I would regard as really strange!

This is probably the clearest pic of my MAT Watches AG6 CHL (on Watchgecko Vintage Bond.) 'leftie' as I knew it.

Of course if you don't want a crown digging into one's wrist, you could always buy a C63 Sealander Elite with it's pop out crown.

Re: A Destro revolution..
Nor me. Sinister and Dexter have been with me for more years than I'd care to admit though. I'll store it in the hope of a future crossword clue . Google search, my go-to first step in everyday research, covers a lot of stuff before we reach a dictionary definition which seems to be a basic right-handedness without any reference to wristwatch case layouts so maybe it's a very niche term?gannet wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 6:22 pmI for one wasn't until today. Do I want one? I'll pass. As a revolution it can pass me by.... to either side
Especially a no-date version. I want to imagine there'll be one in the vast Russian Vostok/Meranom catalogue but honestly it's a bit late but maybe something like this with the dial spun through 180?sproughton wrote: ↑Sat Aug 17, 2024 6:43 pm If it's a basic three hander you'd like to turn into a destro then is it just a case of rotating the dial 180°? Re: A Destro revolution..
If the dial feet allow it, it seems to me you could buy a(ny) no-date watch, and simply reassemble it with the dial turned 180° or any jeweler/watchmaker should be able to do the work. A date wheel, depending on orientation, may complicate matters.
