How would you know if a watch you'd returned under 60/60 was subsequently sold in a sale? Have you seen one sold in a sale that had the same serial number as one you returned? I'm sure some returns are sold in a sale, but most are returned to stock according to CW.

Also, CW don't sell pre-owned watches, so there are never any "pre-owned sales". It may sound like semantics, but it's important for any newbies to realise that "nearly new" watches sold by CW are brand new watches with a full 60-month warranty; it's just that they may not be in 100% perfect condition.
Hi Welshlad,

Sorry to jump on the thread but I've just had the same thing happen to me!

My question is how you know returned watches get checked and then sold as new again?
Well, it's clear that they check watches when they are returned, as you and others are witnessing. The purpose of the check is to ensure that they can be sold as new again. Every seller would want to be able to do that if they can and Mike France has mentioned in interviews that they do this.

The point I was mildly objecting to was that someone claimed to know that their returned watches usually end up in a sale at a discount, when you wouldn't actually know what subsequently happened to your returned watch. I suppose if CW only give a partial refund due to signs of wear on the watch, then it's a fair assumption that it will be offered in a "nearly new" sale later on, but if they give a full refund then it would be more reasonable to assume that it put back into stock for selling again as new at full price. But you will never really know, unless you happen to see the same serial number appear somewhere else, e.g. with another forum member who's bought it later on.

Yeah, makes sense and I share your opinion on how it works.

In any case, I think they have the correct approach - always give the customer the benefit of the doubt and build the brand equity and value. It must be be very gratifying for CW to see how positive (in the most part) people are about the brand on this forum and on the Facebook one. I used to work at Amazon and this was their strategy too, and they have done alright for themselves fiscally (though people will rightly have their option on the ethical side).

This thread is an interesting read. Got to say my experience with customer services had always been excellent, but not so recently. I had issues with misaligned text on the super compressor (which in the end I decided to keep as a rarity as it went all over the internet as a thing and in the end, I found it quite endearing) and was dismissed as being 'within tolerance' initially. If you're competing with luxury, the only tolerance should be perfection. I think the brand have grown a bit big for the original ethos and haven't quite manged to break into the higher end where brand reputation somehow trumps service and product quality (mentioning no names Longiness)?

Even without absolute proof, is it not safe to assume that most of the watches offered for sale as Nearly New are watches returned under the 60 day policy? How else could they possibly have the volume of watches that are offered as nearly new if they aren't returned watches? It seems impossible that they'd have that many watches used for photos and media trials. To my mind returned watches are the only explanation. I do have what what I would consider evidence of this. I bought a Sandhurst nearly new and it arrived with a small chunk out of an endlink. I contacted CS and they said that the watch had been returned and apologized that they had missed that defect when inspecting it and offering it for sale NN. Went on to say that some defects NN were to be expected, but my issue was beyond the norm, and offered new parts to rectify the issue.

No-one is disputing that most of the watches offered for sale as Nearly New in the 6-monthly sales are watches that have been returned under the 60-day guarantee.

But that does not mean that most watches that are returned under the policy are subsequently sold on as Nearly New, which is what I was disputing earlier.

It's a bit of an "all apples are fruit, but most fruits are not apples" kind of thing.

Or, if you like, "all/most NN sale watches are 60/60 returns, but most 60/60 returns do not necessarily become NN sale watches". :)
