Re: 2013 Forum LE suggestion
I have just read this entire thread. There are so many different ideas, some pragmatic and some fantastic (I mean 'based in fantasy' rather than 'really good'). Part of me is drawn towards something out of the ordinary, but I'm generally in the camp that's against this and favouring being 'sensible' this time around.
Wis has summarised the 'sensible' parameters well...
Unfortunately even seemingly simple tweaks to a standard watch can be expensive. Witness the extra £$€s charged for the C7IILE compared to the base model. That's just for a different dial and exclusivity. I believe CWL waives the exclusivity premium for the FLE, but the cost per dial of creating 100 of them is no doubt higher than 1000 or 2500. Sourcing a small number of hands carries an overhead and means they have to be off-the-shelf rather than custom. Getting non-standard movements is even more expensive. Modifying the case (2011 FLE... eeek!) ... let's not go there again.
All this comes down to a modification to the 'sensible' mantra... I don't want something bland - I want something a bit special and I'm willing to pay a bit more.

Oh, and just to go mad and stick my own neck out...
Let's "Bamford" the C60 Trident.
or - more seriously - C7 Mk II - Panda dial

Odd that, when CWL can make other watches in several different colours and not charge a penny more.Loddonite wrote: Unfortunately even seemingly simple tweaks to a standard watch can be expensive. Witness the extra £$€s charged for the C7IILE compared to the base model.
...Anywho - why cant we keep the old logo? Hamilton, Tissot and Tag Heuer succesfully use their old logos for very special watches/ lines, why cant CWL for forum LE's? make it a bit more special no?

Re: 2013 Forum LE suggestion
Oh that would be just about right, the old and therefore 'proper' logo on the new FLE... how are you even supposed to pronounce CHR anyway, CW was so much easier on the eyes.
Panda Dial = WIn!
Would quite like to see C70 FLE in gulf racing colours just to throw my tuppence worth in the ring.

Good guidelines. My fantasy watch was a C5 with the C600 blue dial and tritium tubes.Loddonite wrote:I have just read this entire thread. However on a more serious note....
The early C6 and C2 FLEs pushed teh envelope by taking a quartz and creating an auto which then went on to be the C60 and C20 and now there is no longer a C6 and C2. The 2011 pushed the envelope with a hand wind movement but that has not created a new breed of watch at CWL ... yet although some people would like to see more. The 2012 was never designed to push the envelope as the remit was just to change some colours.
For the next FLE I would like to push the envelope in 2 areas that gets talked about a lot - lume and crystal reflections.
The CWL lume has never been described as great so how about ensuring that this watch has a great lume to challenge the Omegas and Seiko Monsters.
We have seen pics of some of the watches with AR inside and outside making it seem that the crystal is not there. The museum grade crystal on the C11 is amazing but still shows reflections. SO I would like to see museum grade crystal with double AR used.
So regardless of the case, dial etc I think these 2 things can help push the envelope again but would have course need to be checked if they are technically possible and how much it adds to the cost.

How about a C5 case with a single handed dial along the lines of this:
Colours to be worked out ETC.....

I do like the Schauer "Einzeiger".
There is a delivery schedule of six to eight months for this watch, so I'm going to have to start a watch fund

C7 Mk II - Panda dial
If the commity goes the unique route not the 'change what we got route' To perhaps build a new line of quartz watches - As above but with rotating 12 hour bezel for travel like this:
Throw in Ians Super Crystal and boom!
Or possibly an updated C4 peregrine - using ideas from above, surely well overdue an update?
I miss all the great things that may never be.
