I agree with IID. A number of attempts at an FLE have been scuppered due to cost and the 2011, while acclaimed, was thought too expensive for some. The use of an existing case is pretty much a pre requisite as otherwise the costs soar. Also to have an auto chrono would put it in the £600 to £850 price bracket which has been rejected before as a price range.

So far we have had the 2007/2008 based on the C6/C60 Kingfisher
The 2009 based on the C2/C20 Lido
No FLE in 2010 as no-one could agree. (And showing the same signs in this thread. :( )
The 2011 based on the C9 Harrison but with a hand wound movement which was (and still is unique) in the CWL range.
The 2012 based (very strongly) on the C60 Trident (as only colours were allowed to be changed).

And looking through the comments it appears most want a watch that they have seen elsewhere but hoping that CWL can make it cheaper. :problem: :( I am not sure if CWL could go back to the C1 as that was stopped ages ago and also we had a hand wound with the seconds at 6 just recently as the FLE. Remember? :?

Already done - C2/C20, C6/C60 (twice), C9, hand wound
Too expensive - C3, C4/C40, C7/C70/C700, C9 Chrono and Jump Hour
Question mark over case availability - C1

To me that leaves the C5/C50, C8 or C11 cases as possibilities with the later two a bit big for some wrists.

Also there is no requirement to have an FLE each year. 8)

Maybe we should start a 2013 FLE thread and settle for the C50 case as there is but one variant at present and then concentrate on the dial, hands, numerals and desired complications?

Makes sense. With this in mind, I'd put my vote behind the c50, with a modified dial and hands (maybe?)

given that most people would state than the C5 is THE iconic base model of CWL I would think a FLE of this one would make the most sense.

C5/C50 case sounds good.

A 3 hand auto with the date @ 6 and a big day @12 ETA 2834-2 will fit in a 38/39mm case.

+1 Makes sense. Also the C5 is smaller, be it only 1mm.

Nice idea - worth exploring
(actually - better than nice)

You're wrong :D it is the same diameter as a 2824-2... and thinner! No problem putting it in a C5 (or C50).

Gaining some concensus by the looks of it - c5 or c50 case, some detail changes to layout / face. Am i alone re the winding crown suggestion at 9 o'clock? An easy way to make the watch unique - look at the premia for a panerai in that configuration.... This type of watch would also be fashinably retro - quality mesh strap option
anyone?

Wouldn't the GMT movement put the price above the acceptable price threshold?

I'd go for the slightly larger C50 vs the C5.

2013 erring towards a dress watch of 40mm or less using existing case.... Some choice here, c5, c50.... Btw, is the c1 case essentially the same as the c3 without the holes for the chrono buttons?

Glad I was wrong about the case size for the eta. A 24hr dial C5/50 would be fabulous imho.

A small but growing body of support for a 24 hr dial C5/50 - anybody else?

As the movement & case would already be sorted, the major issue is getting the dial to look right, so perhaps something like this could form a design competition similar to the most recent FLE process.
