C90 Beckett's - White

Post by downer »

Are you ready Peteo?? :)

Just received this NN example, and once again, there is little (if anything) to distinguish it from a new one.

I was a bit surprised to discover the dial is not actually pure white, it is more 'old english' white or slightly cream. I like the detail in the dial, and the strap is a nice change from the mock-alligator.

We all know the date window is slightly small on this design, but in real life, it is quite easy to read two-digit dates. There is a small flaw on this example, but I only spotted it with the macro lens, so it is not a big deal and not enough to make me return it.

The power reserve is quite subtle on this white example; On the black version, the PR stands out, but on this one, it is a detail, rather than a defining element.

Enough wittering, here's some pictures...

It's not gonna win any lume contests, but I do like the spot on the power reserve hand.

Looks nicer than the black version. I had the black C90 last summer and sent it back for various design features that I did not like.

I agree with Ian that it looks nicer than the black version.
Very sporty!

Been wearing it this evening. Wow, it's got the Valjoux wobble - big time!

Nice downer, looks great and lovely photos as always. What do you make of the strap? For me, I would be putting something else on it as I am not a fan of the 'ridges'. Still lovely though. :)

Excellent Richard....I like it alot.

I wouldn't say it is better....just a different look....and a real nice one at that.

How about adding those photos to the "Reference Gallery". 8)

Great catch Richard, It does look a lot better than the black faced version and your photo's make this a tempting possibility if only it didn't suffer the Valjoux wobble I would probably have snapped one up in the sale too.

Its very nice, and although it resembles Chopard's mille miglia GT, it's much dressier and certainly very high VOP comparatively. I do hope there will be more Valgranges powered CW in the future line-up.

And once more I say, how I wish the Beckett's came in a smaller size!

These real-life pics make the white version look nicer than the black (whereas CW's website pics made me think the black was still better).

I like the strap a lot. It is extremely supple for a CW strap. Often, they start off quite stiff and take quite a bit of wearing in, but this one is very pliable straight out of the box, and I would say the quality is quite high. The finish is more matt and understated than the moc-croc. As for the ridges, well I like the feature, but as you say, that is just a matter of personal preference. :)

Yes, although it is not a valjoux movement, I believe the valgranges range is derived from the valjoux, and it appears to share the noisy rotor and strong centrifugal force. Generally, I don't have a problem with the valjoux wobble, but this particular movement does seem quite noisy, with a vibration in the rotor. I wonder if there is a bigger problem with this one, but time will tell.

I'd be interested to hear what other owners feel about their ETA A07.161 movements...
