C9 Harrison 5 Day Automatic
As much as I am warming to it, it will have to be 40mm here.
Glad you had a great trip.

Re: C9 Harrison 5 Day Automatic
I must admit my first choice was to be the white or blue dial. Since I have the white dial in the C900 and C9 BDD and also the blue on the C5 Slimline, I opted for the charcoal with this one.
Today this gets its first all day exposure. I shall report regarding the overall visability of the hands.

Re: C9 Harrison 5 Day Automatic
Congratulations Kip and I look forward to hearing more about overall visibility. I have to say, following a review of your photographs, I did find it difficult to read the time owing to the fact that there does not appear to be much difference between the second hand and the minute hand. Not that much of an issue in real life though as the simple fact that the second hand is constantly moving will ease legibility.
Re: C9 Harrison 5 Day Automatic
I'm looking forward to your thoughts Kip as I remain undecided. I'm not drawn to the charcoal nor the blue dials. I much prefer the white dial with blue hands. I already have the C900SP and C9BDD in my collection and I can't find a reason to add the 5 day Harrison despite liking the SH21 movement. I'm thinking those blue hands on the MonoPusher would add to this fabulous watch and that maybe be the way to go.

After looking at all three on the day the white with the blue hands was by far the easiest to read. The others you would have to angle the watch to read the time.

I was thinking that looks lovely Kip I have been taken your notes on the charcoal dial perhaps is not the clearest but then again that appeals to me he!he! maybe if they do number indexes in due course that be the combo I go for

How are you finding the size and what size wrists do you have? I'm worried its going to look like a wall clock on my 7.5" wrists?

Re: C9 Harrison 5 Day Automatic
My wrist size is just under 7 inches and I find it (43mm) very comfortable.

Re: C9 Harrison 5 Day Automatic
My wrist is 7 inches exact and I have a 43.5mm watch. I'm told it looks fine but I think it's just a little too big. It's a diving/casual watch so I can get away with it.Kip wrote:My wrist size is just under 7 inches and I find it (43mm) very comfortable.
A 43mm dress watch is only for people who have a gigantic wrist. For everyone else, I don't get the appeal. Thank God CW are coming out with a 40mm version or I'd be offended.

I really like the look of that Kip. It has lovely clean lines and a crisp look of quality and refinement!
Re: C9 Harrison 5 Day Automatic
I am quoting myself as I'm still undecided. Although I have a good reason to buy I remain underwhelmed by the 'look' of the movement. I have no doubt that mechanically SH12 is a suberb, however is it just me or do others 'see' the movement as a bit utilitarian and grey. I'm hoping that once I've had a good long look at the watch I might change my mind.Berkshire wrote:I'm looking forward to your thoughts Kip as I remain undecided.

I'd say actually having it in your hand and viewing it then will be the decider.

Re: C9 Harrison 5 Day Automatic
I think it is quite subtle but you really have to see it. It is really nicely done and it is by hand. If they slip when putting a screw in it markes the watch and it has to be redone. Apparently it is an old British technique. Swiss watches have the Cotes de Geneva and perlage which I thought looked good but having seen them on numerous watches I have gotten a bit bored with it. Especially when you see pictures of them being made by machines multiples at a time. No longer is it the skill of the watchmaker.Berkshire wrote:[is it just me or do others 'see' the movement as a bit utilitarian and grey. It is hard to find pictures of the industrial nature of watchmaking as the marketing departments still want to keep up the myth of hand made watches.
At the event Chris did say that I should come up with a competition on the forum to name the style used for the new movement. I have been thinking about it but have not come up with a format. One thing is definite anything like Cote de London or Cote de Maidenhead is definitely out.

Re: C9 Harrison 5 Day Automatic
Thanks Ian, I will indeed take a closer look. As you say the movement is subtle and without doubt no matter how good the photographs you can never capture the quality. I was also undecided with the C900 WT until I saw the detail and that is in my collection. I'll be going to No.1 in mid September when all C9 5 Day dials will next be available to see together.
