Watch Brand Ranking / Tier
Watch Brand Ranking / Tier
I know this topic is probably so frequently discussed, and sometimes a taboo for some people. However I always find it slightly amusing for us who love watches!
There are hundreds of watch brand names, but here are a few that I thought of. Please add as you all will, and I know a lot of people may agree/disagree with me.
1. Patek, Audemers Piguet, Vacheron Constantin
2. JLC (Jaeger Le Coultre), A. Lange & Sohne, IWC (International Watch Company), Zenith, Blancpain, Ulysse Nardin, Panerai
3. Rolex, Omega, Cartier, Tudor, Hublot
4. Breitling, Chopard, Ebel, Sinn, Alpina, Frédérique Constant, U-Boat
5. Tag Heuer, Ball, Oris, Fortis, Mont Blanc,
6. Tissot, Hamilton, Glycine, Mido, Raymond Weil, Longines, Christopher Ward, High End fashion brands (LV, Dior,..)
7. Seiko, Orient, Citizen, Movado, ESQ by Movado, Victorinox, Wenger,
8. Invicta, Swatch, Timex, Bulova, Skagen, Philip Stein, G-shock (Special edition)
9. Fashion Watches (Kenneth Cole, CK, Burberry,...), Casio Edifice, others
What do you all think?

Maybe you also wish to consider to add to your list the "Glashutte" ? (E.g. GO, Union, Muhle, Nomos...)
Also some other obvious omissions like, Baume & Mercier/ Bell & Ross/ Bertolucci/ Chronoswiss/ Bremont/ Eberhard/ Maurice Lacroix/ Tutima?
I think its fun to rank your own favorite watchmakers, don't worry about what others may think because it will be your watch paid by the money coming out from your own wallet so it is valid which brand you consider more worth paying for.
My personal opinion on your list, I guess you should give Breitling, Chopard and Longines more credit

You list Seiko at number 7, is that based on the 5 series or Grand Seiko and/or Springdrives?
Why is Tag Heuer at number 5? Heuer I can understand, not TAG.
As I said, pretty useless to me.
CW count: 6 Seiko count: 11 Casio count: 1 Citizen count: 1 G-Shock count: 2.

Aifo you're right! When reading the brands you missed out, I was like feeling bad for them! LOL! but yea, too many brands for us to remember. Just off hand quoting. Yea, most people put breitling as the same level as rolex and omega.

Re: Watch Brand Ranking / Tier
Seiko is very subjective because they produce a very wide range of models. From the mass production watches, to luxury watches as well. Maybe ranked 5-8? Its interedsting because watch brand is so subjective. Only through forums and all that we know each other's perspective. But ultimately we should get what we like!

Re: Watch Brand Ranking / Tier
It's not a bad scratch list really, agong, but there are so many others as has been pointed out. I can just see you kicking yourself . I think you'd have to set aside a weekend or two, to do a really good one to be honest. And even then, there would be some missing I dare say!
Especially the intermediate tiers like 5,6 and 7 (most interesting in many respects) - there are loads, some well known and others more obscure, which is partly what makes it so hard to get out of those tiers, so much good competition.
Cheers,
Jack.

If you are looking for more brands to round out the list, please add Stauer, Franklin Mint, Relic, and Rocawear. I'm tempted to join timezone and post a lengthy SOTC showcasing these classy gems.

Re: Watch Brand Ranking / Tier
I think that we need some sort of graphic that shows brand's ranges - highest to lowest - brands would overlap. Seiko, as mentioned above, ranges from Grand down to Lorus, Tag have the Monaco and Carrera lines that stand out. Even CWL overlap some of the mid range brands at their top end.
But, just for fun and to get into the spirit of this hopefully pointless argument and shuffling the brands from the original post...
1. Patek, Vacheron Constantin
2. Audemers Piguet, JLC (Jaeger Le Coultre), A. Lange & Sohne, IWC (International Watch Company), Zenith, Blancpain, Ulysse Nardin.
3. Rolex, Omega, Cartier, Breitling, Grand Seiko.
4.Tudor, Chopard, Ebel, Sinn, Alpina, Frédérique Constant, Mont Blanc, Very High End fashion brands ( Panerai, Hublot), Seiko Ananta.
5. Ball, Oris, Fortis, Longines, Seiko.
6. Tissot, Hamilton, Glycine, Mido, Raymond Weil, Christopher Ward, Tag Heuer, High End fashion brands (LV, Dior, U-Boat..) Seiko.
7. Seiko, Orient, Citizen, Movado, ESQ by Movado, Victorinox, Wenger,
8. Invicta, Swatch, Timex, Bulova, Skagen, G-shock, Seiko.
9. Fashion Watches (Kenneth Cole, CK, Burberry, G-shock (Special edition)...), Casio Edifice, others
Philip Stein? Who they? Website has no watches for UK, just a brief flash of Ladies watches before telling me the UK collection is coming last month ?!
