If you could be sponsored by a watch manufacturer...........

Postby smegwina » Wed Jul 11, 2018 8:30 pm

I was watching F1 the other day, looking at all the watch sponsors, and it got me thinking....

Which watch manufacturer would you want to be sponsored by?

You are only able to wear the products of that company, and these watches need to cover every situation. (dress, everyday, beater etc)

There are plenty of companies who would do me perfectly, Seiko, Omega, Casio etc, but I would probably choose.... IWC.

- They cover every eventuality in the larger case sizes so would be perfect for my needs.

My basic three would be.

Dress -

Portofino 45mm

Image

Everyday -

Big Pilot

Image

Beater - Ingenieur XL

Image

Those three will do me for a start but there are also plenty of others to choose from should I so desire!!!!!!!! :)

They would be a very close second for me. My only problem would be a larger case dress watch. Virtually all of their dress watches are sub 40mm

Omega for me too. I thought about Cartier, I thought about Vacheron, but I was struggling to find the right threesome. So I went with tried and trusted.

Dress watch: a nice understated gold Trésor.

Daily wearer. Easy. I’ve been wearing it all week and I’m wearing it now.

Beater/holiday watch...AT 150m GMT. About on my size limit at 43mm but hey, I’ve got a Trident.

I’d be happy with these three.

The half minute which we daily devote to the winding-up of our watches is an exertion of labour almost insensible; yet, by the aid of a few wheels, its effect is spread over the whole twenty-four hours.

Patek Philippe would do nicely. No waiting lists for difficult to obtain at RRP watches, as the sponsor would provide them free and gratis! :)

This would do as a start:

A few Nautilus on bracelet
5711 x 2 (white and blue)
5712
5726
5990
5740
A couple of Aquanaut on rubber -
5167
5968
A couple of Calatrava -
5196P
5296G
A few “Complications” -
5170P
5396G
5205R

Meanwhile in the real world, if no sponsorship deal was involved and I was stuck with watches from one brand only, I would pick Rolex.

I'll go with Seiko. There's some GS models that I'd give me left b****ck for!

Looking past the brand names, you'd be getting some supremely finished metal here, precious or not.

IWC would be fine and the three selected by Nick would do admirably, or a selection from Omega.....

.
... but
.
.
... I think I'd prefer a less mainstream brand, say, Breguet or perhaps Breitling.

Not sure exactly which watches, but I'm sure I could find a few.

Alright I will play along. I have always been fond of Tudor so.......that is whom I would want to be my sponsor and here are my picks:

Black Bay Steel is close enough to a dress watch for me and that would be fine with a Jacket, Tie and Texas Pressed Jeans.

Image

Black Bay Red would be my choice for everyday use with a nice splash of color on the bezel, good for swimming, vacation and beach. It looks good and I love those snowflake hands.

Image

Last but not least the Heritage Ranger would make a fine beater. It looks good and I love the spear and sword hands.

Cheers, Mike.

Ok, I’ll play too. Audemars Piquet for me. I have no need for a dress watch at all and would never wear one anyway, but an ultra thin Royal Oak 39mm would double as everyday and dress. Royal Oak offshore diver chrono for weekends etc.. Those 2 would do for me and cover any situation.

If I was forced to add a dress watch style it’d be this
