Got to be a Fortis Daybreaker Recon, does just about everything (except make tea)
On a more realistic and practical note, I'd like to get back my Seiko Orange Monster
but then from my current collection it will have to be my Damasko DK15

Re: your watch for the apocalypse??
My daughter made this in the school holidays.
She wanted to make a water clock, we succeeded but it only times 25 minutes.
Serious answer has to be HAQ solar.
Because there will be no reference clocks like radio, internet or GPS to set the time.
So even normal quartz will be inaccurate eventually.
Solar power because where are you going to acquire a new battery?

I would go with this. The battery should last until the zombies get me, the lume is good and should the planet flood the WR is crazy.

Re: your watch for the apocalypse??
Nothing with a battery, unless (a la smeggers) it's a Seiko kinetic. So let's go with an automatic that lasts a long time between services... Yes, Rolex now recommend ten year intervals between services, but I'll bet a lot of zombies would be after you simply because of wrist envy (well known non-fact ). On that basis and that the 7S26 movement seemingly runs almost forever without servicing and the cases stand up to decades of abuse, I'd probably go for a Seiko SKX...

From my collection, my sub on one wrist and probably the Scooter on the other.

Re: your watch for the apocalypse??
I'm disappointed that it took until page 2 for someone to mention the SKX. I'll be wearing the SKX for the durability, and on the other wrist the Seamaster, for the tradeability when you need to barter for your survival.

Out of my collection I'd choose my C600 Tr-Tech Elite IPB, good lume but not enough to get you spotted by the zombies and for the same reason the dial colour isn't too bright, black case too so won't glint in the sunlight if there is any through the cloud dust and very rugged to withstand any abuse it will get.

I'm with you Ferg for all the same reasons. Lume all night, stealthy, no need for batteries, water resistant beyond need and rugged.

Re: your watch for the apocalypse??
there aare certain themes emerging:
1. apocalypse could simply be the excuse you need to go out wearing your grail watch - go on, you get the chance to wear that Lange perpetual calendar regulator you've always drooled over....
2. power supply is important to consider - some are considering solar power, but if we're living through a nuclear winter the sun will be occluded by clouds of dust..... automatic might last long enough if it was recently serviced; quartz if you change to a new battery as the first apoccalypse news reports start coming in.
3. WR might be important if - as neil said - you have to hide from bad guys underwater breathing through a hollow reed.....
4. indestructibility might be important, but i think it's worth bearing in mind that the human body is probably more destructible than a casio pro-tek..... there doesn't seem much point in choosing a watch just because it'll still be ticking years after you've been eaten by zombies.........
my feeling is that minute to minute time-keeping won't be too vital if you're living under a dust cloud, looting for food and fuel, and keepiing constantly on the move to escape zombies...... i think that marking longer passage of time might be important psychologically, so perhaps a perpetual calendar triple date moonphase would be helpful... also a repeater might help to allow you to grab short bursts of sleep then wake up and keep moving.....
what would change about the way you wear watches?? you wouldn't be able to take your entire collection with you (and might be captured by said zombies just because you spent too long indoors trying to decide what your one-watch was going to be!!); you'd probably be wearing your one-watch all the time and wouldn't have a bedside table to set it gently on (crown up) overnight; you wouldn't be able to take the time to worry over dings and swirlies......... and the logo would become entirely irrelevent

Re: your watch for the apocalypse??
So based on the film world war Z where zombies ignore people who have serious illness I would be fine and can walk around with impunity and help myself to a new shiny watch every day.
Not sure it counts as a positive spin but you have to take the ups where you can find them, so I could drive my Bentley and wear my Patek whilst deciding what to wear and drive tomorrow.

Re: your watch for the apocalypse??
brilliant kevin! i love your thinking! you could just stroll from watch boutique to watch boutique (sorry - drive your bentley from watch boutiique to watch boutique) and pick a new one whenever you feel like it! thanks for posting this - it made me smile out loud. best wishes to you
