That is a stunner , I would prefer the stainless version , but that is a gorgeous watch Nick .smegwina wrote:Yesterday, I popped into a rather well known shops "fine watch room" whilst waiting for our dinner reservations just up the road. I was looking for a particular IWC, when I came across a watch I have really looked at before. The Portofino max handwound.
Utterly gorgeous, beautifully made and stunning in both steel and gold.
Hmmmmmmm........

Wondered when someone would notice that!downer wrote:Even at 45mm, with no bezel...?Amor Vincit Omnia wrote:It has a standing invitation to my watch box!
It may be a touch large for many, but genuinely wears smaller than the specs suggest. - similar to the 43mm 5 day c9.
I am not normally a fan of gold cases and the SS is perfectly lovely (and the one that I would probably choose) but the gold was just stunning, if terrifyingly expensive when compared to the SS.

As lovely as the Portofino is Bern, The BP seems to be the one that I just can't get out of my mind Bern, and the reason that I was in the shop!tempusmaximus wrote:Good point Guy .Bahnstormer_vRS wrote:Stick to the Big Pilot.

Just can't decide on the model.
500401 - The "classic" and a bit cheaper, but doesn't have the 9 or the indeces above the triangle markert
Or the
500912 - New model, better WR, and has the 9 and indeces at 12 as per the original.
Below are the options.

I see what you mean Nick . A tough decision buddy .
The numerals on the 401 version look to be finer too IMO .

Re: The "what watch are you day dreaming about now" thread
I like the two on the left, more classic to my eyes. Of those, I'd probably pick the leftmost, as I like the way the indices are done, the inclusion of the 9 and the positioning of the 12 o'clock marker. The centre one has slightly finer markings, but that's not necessarily a bonus to me, just something to note.smegwina wrote: As lovely as the Portofino is Bern, The BP seems to be the one that I just can't get out of my mind Bern, and the reason that I was in the shop!

Gotta be the 500912. Anything else would be a compromise. The missing 9 and 12 marker unbalance the 401 imo.

I agree. The 412 looks better with the additional numbers, yet seems to be less cluttered than the 203.downer wrote:Gotta be the 500912. Anything else would be a compromise. The missing 9 and 12 marker unbalance the 401 imo.
