1. Decency and Post language
There may be forums and places where explicit, foul or vulgar language, graphics or behavior is appropriate, but the CW Forum is not one of those places. We also do not tolerate racial or ethnic slurs. We promote a family atmosphere.

Any and all posts, photos or links that are not deemed appropriate by the Administrator or Moderators shall be censured or deleted. Offenders are subject to a warning or ban if deemed necessary.

2. Political and religious discussions/photos are not permitted.

3. Weapons - The discussion/photos of weapons such as, but not limited to, guns and knives are not permitted. This to include photos of watches that might include non permitted items.

4. Replicas and/or fake watch discussions are not permitted.

5. Personal attacks
Be courteous. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Challenge others points of view and/or opinions, but do so respectfully, thoughtfully and without insult and personal attack. Offenders are subject to warning , suspension of membership, or permanent banning.

6. Moderation
Although we do not heavily moderate this forum, your first 5 posts must be approved by a member of the “Admin Team”. Some times this may cause a delay from the time you post until it becomes visible. This is due to the many spammers that try to infiltrate the forum. As a result we have implemented this preapproval to give us time to approve all IP addresses, forum names and post content.

7. 30 post minimum to see the Sales Corner
In order to see the Sales Corner and Want to Buy section you need to have 30 posts. This was put in place due to the sheer amount of spammers that the admin team had to deal with. There were also many cases where people joined and just posted a single for sale post and that was it. This angered some members and things were getting out of hand. The admin team put this rule in place. It was heavily debated at the time. The rule is here to stay for the time being. The existing forum members do not want to debate it again, so, there is no point in asking why such and such could not be done, it is fruitless and just annoys forum members.

If you are serious about watches then 30 posts is not a lot. There are forums with much more draconian limits. A common response is that a person says that they do not know much about watches and are here to learn. Good for you. But there are non-watch related areas of the forum that get a lot of traffic as well. And while you may not know much about watches you must have an opinion on what you like and dislike surely?

The 30 post count allows other members to get to know you and help form an opinion on whether they want to buy from you and even if they want to sell to you. It is a seller’s right to decide who they want to sell to. So get along to Members Introduction if you have not done so already and tell us about yourself and your watches to date. We don’t bite. Well most of us don’t anyway.

8. Speed posting
Multiple rapid posting , usually by someone with less than 30 posts, without any real context or recognition of how old a thread is. So, replying to most of the threads in the Gallery with "nice watch, nice photos" is a prime example. It is a small imposition for the good of the forum. And running is easily spotted in the first thirty posts. One or two word posts that say things like "nice watch" and then post 31 a Want to Buy. This also applies to very old threads being resurrected with an inane comment. Joining in and posting a few comments and answers in threads and is easy and before long you are there.
Speed posts shall be deleted with or without a warning to the user. A second violation shall result in all posts being deleted. A third shall result in a ban from the forum. Those that wish to test this are welcome to try. Admin Team members shall be the judge of what is or is not Speed Posting.

9. Sales posts
Items for sale must be owned by the CWF member posting or immediate family and be in your possession.

When you decide that you wish to sell a watch and have the requisite post count (hint – don’t make post 31 a sales post or a WTB post) then you need to create an ad that will attract the forum members to part with their money for your watch. The main thing is thinking about what information you would like to see if you were buying a watch. At the top of the sales area is a list that you should use that covers the main areas. Feel free to add more detail, but this list should be covered in your sales post.

All sales posts must state a price – whether it is for sale or trade. If you wish to have an auction, then please use eBay or another auction site. The price should also say what the postage is if it is not included.

If you have restrictions on where you will send the watch please state those so that potential buyers are aware. Many members have sold to other countries with no problems.
This part of the forum can only be used by forum-members that have posted more than 30 messages.

After your watch has been sold, please update the original subject and add: *SOLD* to it.

The sale price must remain after an item is sold for future reference.

Etiquette and Guidelines

Member introduction
This is a great place to start and share your intentions and interests regarding our forum. Tell us how you found us, tell us a bit about yourself, what watches do you own and what watches interest you.

Preview your posts
Previewing your posts before submission will allow you to check spelling, grammar and any quotes or links you may have included. We do not pretend to be language majors here, but a thought out post is much easier to read than not.

Dead topics and threads – better to link to and/or start a new one in most cases.

Quotes
One of the facilities of most forum software is the ability to quote another user’s post. This is useful if you want to refer back to what someone else said and you want to specifically call it out but there has been a number of posts in the meantime.

To create a quote: click on the Quote button and it will create a reply with the post you want to quote in quotes. But did you know you can quote just a small section of the quote? To do this , just create a reply and then go to the post you wish to quote. Highlight the section you wish to quote and press the quote button on that post and the quoted section will appear in your post where the cursor was. Just make sure your cursor is in the right place before quoting or you may have to do some editing. You can go to another post and select the section you want and that will be added to your post. The only issue with this is if it is a long thread.

When you create the reply and move up you may not be able to see the post that you want to quote. In this case it is usually best abandon the reply and go to the post and click quote. Then edit out all the bits of the quote that are not relevant to the reply. Just ensure that the quote in square brackets at the start and end are still intact. Click preview to see if you have done it correctly. If you want to do multiple quotes that are too far up on the thread then open the thread in a new window and quote the post and copy it across to your reply for editing.

That is the how to but what about the etiquette of posting?
The main use of quotes is to highlight something that has been said that you wish to reply to in a more direct way than just posting. As above it there have been multiple posts this makes it easier for others to see the context of your reply.

What is not so good is when people quote a big post and just add a few words like I agree. If it is the first post in the thread then it is pretty safe to say that this is what people are talking about. If there was a particular point in the post then just quote that one part. If there are a number of pictures don’t quote the whole post and say that you like the third one. Just quote that one and even then are you sure you need to?

At no time should a quote be edited that would cause the meaning, context or intent of a statement to be altered.

Thread hijacking
Please try to keep a thread on topic. The nature of a discussion is to get off track. If you are so inclined please start a new thread. This is far more courteous and will make it easier for those that may search for a subject in the future.

Curmudgeons Corner
What bugs you? This topic is not to create a political discussion nor to create controversy or to discuss at all the reasons for attitudes etc.

It is just a place to make a statement of why... about the little curiosities of life... not to answer them.

State your gripe or ask your question only..don’t answer anyone’s and you will not get an answer. Just a place to vent a bit.
No comments permitted and will be deleted.

Photos- Broken Links
Broken links to photos are useless and will be deleted if your photo disappears. Please use caution when rearranging your photos/albums on your host.
