Vintage Seiko Servicing

Post by ian-909 »

I want to get my vintage (1970s) Seiko serviced and glass replaced. There is a Seiko service centre not far from where I live.

Is there any reason why I should go to a local jeweller or watchmaker instead of Seiko, other than cost?

It really depends on the model, and of course the cost. Sometimes, given the age, specialists know more than the service teams, or are cheaper and just as thorough.

I used Watchguy (http://watchguy.co.uk/) for my King Seiko (https://watchguy.co.uk/cgi-bin/library? ... at_id=2507) - but he's normally very busy, so you may have to be patient as his booking system is a fine art in timing.

My costs were higher due to issues sourcing a NOS crystal...and I ended up with a generic one anyway...but as you can see in the final photos, it looked great: pics/story posted here

Thanks very much for that. It’s a 6119 8450. I’ll check Watchguy out and your story. I’m in no rush to get it done but will post back when it is.
