That is a lovely piece in the Rolex stable. I don't recall seeing a face on photograph like that one before. It is interesting to see that there is a space between the crown and the steel bezel, not unlike the space on the Steinhart homage that is currently on my wrist.

Thanks for posting Bernie.

If I try a Steinhart at some point it will likely be the Ocean Vintage GMT that JM has referred to - basically because I was fortunate to try on a 1655 and thought if only!

It was a one owner watch that belonged to a member of the Forces who wore it all the time, including on active service. About a year ago it had a complete Rolex overhaul and he then decided to sell, as the memories associated with all the scratches and dings over the years were erased during service.

Rolex tend to be insensitive to the idea of beauty as a result of use.

A fabulous watch the 1655 aka. "Steve McQueen" that i can only ever wish to own. So the lovely Steinhart OV GMT will have suffice for me today also.

The OV GMT will be fine for me too. Just have to decide whether to order direct from Steinhart, or wait until someone flips one. :)
