Different thickness

Post by ianblyth »

A number of strap suppliers get mentioned. As I have a Toshi, SteveO and BikerMC strap I though I would do some pictures to show the differences compared to a CWL C8 Pilot and a black alligator on a C40.

Image

Starting at the top is a Toshi, the strap not on a watch is SteveO, the tan is BikerMC, at the bottom is the C40 alligator and at 9 is the C8.

Image

A close up shows that the Toshi is definitely the thickest and the alligator is last.

The profile shows the Toshi, followed by BikerMC, SteveO and the C8.

So if you are looking for thickness Toshi seems to have it based on these samples but they so say the thickness will vary depending on what leather they have in.

The SteveO strap is the softest and most pliable followed by the C8 (and the C80 strap is teh same). The C40 alligator strap varies being soft at the tails but stiffer towards the spring bars. That may be due to the "build up" so that the strap fits the case.

The Toshi and BikerMC straps were the stiffest but they were also the thickest which may explain part of the stiffness.

The SteveO straps gets awards for the most funky packaging. The strap is wrapped in a sheet of bright blue tissue paper, then purple tissue paper. It is then sealed in a plastic bag and the envelope is a silver foil bubble wrap envelope.

SteveO also advises to polish the strap with Natural Dubbing or leather polish.

Interesting comparison Ian, thanks.

Have to admit, I found the Toshi's a bit too thick when I tried a couple.

I went to see 'Mr Toshi' and saw several straps, and they are nicely made, but pretty thick, so think you'd need a reasonable chunky watch and not have skinny wrists like me to carry them off!!
