Spell Checking

Post by ianblyth »

One thing I notice when I am on other forums is that my spelling mistakes are point out with a red sqiggly underline like in Word. Most useful. I wonder if this forum has it and can it be switched on? I know there will be a discussion on what version of English it should spell in - UK (colour) or US (color) etc but any help is useful.

Lol I never even noticed that Androo. My iPhone spell checks for me on the forum anyway.

I didn't think forum software could spell-check.
I have spell-checking switched on in Firefox and I get the squiggly red lines on this forum.

<edit>
Swiched it off, reboooted Frierfox a nd no squigglys.

<edit the edit>
same result on TZUK

Spell chucking (sic :) ) in Firefox works well but there still isn't a grammar checker!

Weather it's whether if we'll wear or ware it - as an example.

There's also the likes of...
FWIW IMHO HTH FFS etc.

One forum I'm also a member of just encourages all posts to be read through before hitting the submit.

Not available in our software as far as I know. I will check with Hans again regarding any possible updates.

OK the reason that TZ-UK gets spell checked is that I use Goggle Chrome on that site and Chrome has spell checking built in. IE doesn't. I use IE on here as it keeps track of what is read and unread as I use the back button to go back to the unread list which Chrome doesn't do (or didn't - I may have to recheck that).

So scrub the question.

No don't bother! The forum isn't an English exam. One the great things about written English is that it has high redundancy and most words can be understood with slight errors. For example a sentence without vowels is gererally easily understood. I like the forum with all the errors: you can feel people's enthusiasm as their thoughts outpace their typing skills. So let's not be so anal. Forget the spell checker. :D
