Sizing and engraving

Post by Kip »

A recent upgrade has been made to the CWL website to streamline the sizing and engraving a bit.

When you click on the sizing option each watch will have a different set of sizing options based on the watch chosen.

When selecting engraving, the character count is given and the drop down box allows you to enter your selection immediately.

This should make those options much easier to deal with.

That has to be a good thing.
Before I bought the Matisse I had to check as wasn't sure if 20 or 30 characters.

If you enter the text on the watch page there's a check on the character count (when you click buy button) so you cannot enter more than the number specified. This is okay but to be fair under the old system when I asked (emailed) Wera & Deb they did say give or take one or two characters, which is nice if you're having problems fitting in a suitable inscription. So maybe if struggling with the text giving customer services a call to see if they can be flexible (e.g. the C5 auto is 20 characters, C5 quartz is 30 characters).

Does engraving invalidate the 60 day return policy (unless it's faulty)?

I assume it doesn't because nobody else has mentioned it. If you personalise anything from a retailer, they will not take it back so some clarification on the site would be great-- here would be the best place to put that: http://www.christopherward.co.uk/engraving.html

The engraving, if done by CWL, does not invalidate the warranty.

I assume you mean the returns policy (not the warranty, which relates to the working order of the watch) :)

Thanks for clearing that.

I meant the warranty. A watch with an engraved case is not likely to be allowed for a return. That issue would have to be addressed by customer service.

I see. Thanks for clearing that up. They should really state this clearly on the website to avoid confusion.

Hi, not sure if this thread is still active but just received a C7 with engraving on the back plate. Done over 2 lines just beneath the usual markings and the serial number is beneath that.
Looks very nice though I appreciate the impact it might have on resale IF I was to ever want to pass it on.

Hope you got your watch anyway.

The limits of caseback engraving can be seen here.
