I've managed to download 5 albums this morning, though some of them at the 2nd or 3rd attempt! The ads are so aggressive!

You are correct about the attempts. Sometimes as many as 6 tries before able to download. Now making slow progress.

I can't even get the home page to load on PhotoBucket. There must be hundreds of thousands of people downloading their photo collections.

I think the relevant phrase is 'they've screwed the pooch'. There can't be many people willing to subscribe at the price point they set and with so many other alternatives available. If only Google had an easier method of sharing photos to websites.

I'll likely use tinypic.com as the replacement - I've been using it for several months now (thanks Reggie747!) and am quite happy with it although the ads can sometimes slow it down a little (a lot). Still, it's free.

Good luck downloading. I had 2 accounts with about 3000 photos in assorted albums. It took me about 5-6 hours wading through the ads an lack of response to finish.

Personally I found the ads on tinpic.com to be similar to what has been happening on Photobucket for the past year or so. Imgur is free, no ads and has similar editing capabilities to what Photobucket had.

Tried imgur just had random people commentating but couldn't find where to get codes for actual photos too post.

^^ in imgur you click on the tiny arrow next to your login name at the top right of the screen to get to your private photo library. once you've downloaded an image, open it, and then the same-as-photobucket links appear on the right of the screen. use the BB option and paste into the forum. it took me ages to figure all this out because it's not clear on the imgur openning page, but i'm finding it sttraightforward to use now

if the BB link just isn't there, then it's beyond my small computer brain, because it's there when i use it on my laptop..... :?
do you get 'image link', 'direct link', 'markdown link' and an 'html' option???
