C60 Trident 38mm, how does it wear? Size comparisons?

Post by algoth »

I'm in the market for a reasonably sized diver (17cm wrists) and I've been seriously thinking of pulling the trigger on the 38mm C60 Trident. What's been keeping me so far is that I'm not sure if 38mm would be even too small for a diver, however I understand that the 38mm C60 wears quite large for its size thanks to the dial diameter and the bezel being rather thin.

I'd much appreciate your opinions, how does it compare to 40mm divers (the Sub and its homages come to mind, plus a variety of micros)? How about 38mm non-dive watches, e.g. Seiko SARB033/035 or Sinn 556?

Thanks!

i have a SARB035 and a trident 600 gmt 38mm. if i'm pushed i'd say that the sarb wears bigger, but it's an almost impossible comparison to make. beezel or not obviously makes a difference to how the watches look and wear, and the main factor is that the trident is taller, so has some presence on the wrist that has nothing to do with case size. i still think that despite its height, the narrowness of the bezel makes the gmt seem really neat and compact.

i don't think 38mm can be too small for a diver if it's a diver that fits well on your wrist. the only thing i was immediately aware of on the dial of the 38mm trident is that the text is very tiny - sized down relatively from its big brother. my middle aged eye sight is coping with this for now, but give it a few years and i might have trouble reminding myself what kind of watch i'm wearing!

hope this is of some help

Does anyone know the Trident's dial/crystal diameter? I always find that makes a big difference on how it wears.

Thanks, didn't realise this was a viable option but you're absolutely right, their guarantee does seem pretty generous. Maybe I'll just take the plunge next time the Tridents are on sale and see how I like it.

I read somewhere that the dial measures a few mm wider than that of the Rolex Sub. I also saw a photo of the C60 and a NTH Näcken (40mm) side-by-side, they look nearly identical in size due to the Näcken's smaller dial and thicker bezel.

A few comparative measurements of a selection of dive watches (measured with my trusty tape measure, so not as accurate as digital thingy ):

- C60 38mm - L2L 45.5, dial 29
- C60 43mm - 51.5, 32+
- Submariner 40mm - 47, 29
- Black Bay 41mm - 49+, 32
- Pelagos 42mm - 50, 31+

As to which is best for you it is purely personal choice. There are plenty of people with a wrist your size who favour the 43mm version over the 38mm, but equally plenty with a slightly larger wrist who prefer the 38mm.

My wrist size is only 16cm and I am struggling between a 38mm and 43mm C60 Trident Pro 600... any recommendations?

Go for 38mm. My wrist size is also 16cm and I got the smaller one. Fits better, because the lugs of the 43mm version would overhang my arm and look silly, like wearing oversized clothing.

My wrist is 16.5cm (with the dressmakers tape, tightly wrapped around the hand side of my wrist bone.)

I initially tried the 43mm trident and it was like a dinner plate on my wrist.

Now they say a picture is worth a thousand words , (my photgraphy isn't worth much tho)

Here are my 38mm tridents on my wrist..

I bought a 38mm Trident early last year, for our holiday down under.
Having a 6 ¾ inch wrist, I thought that the 38mm would be perfect size.
But instead found it too small.
Were 43mm though a lot larger appears to curve nicely on my wrist.

Although the OP never mentioned the 43mm, the 60/60 would allow him to order both and try them as a direct comparison (assuming he didn't mind the initial outlay for 2 watches)

Now that's a great idea, Chris !
