Christopher Ward C60 Trident - what are the worst things

Post by Trimadjules »

Hi Guys
I am new to this forum and I am considering a second CW - the Christopher Ward C60 Trident.
I have split this post into two -
For those of you who own a similar watch to the Trident but from another brand what do you dislike most about the CW compared to your other watch and what brand / model is that ?

New logo. Try to get the older one if you can.

You'll hear a lot about the logo. Note the negative often comes from people who have never owned or seen one in person. Pretty unnoticeable in the flesh.

I have more new logo tridents than old.
Personally I would like to see improved lume and anti-reflective crystal, but only minor complaints.

A larger case would also be nice, but that's only because most of my other watches are 45mm+
Current collection incl Citizen, G-Shock, Rolex, Seiko, Sinn & Tag.

Forgot to mention my flaw with the tridents. For me, definitely how everything is polished. Too flashy.

That the 43mm is too big (for me) and that I'd maybe prefer a 40mm to the 38mm I own.
Why split the 2 threads? Most Trident owners have "best" and "worst" point opinions so I now have to go to the other thread to state that the polished finish is IMO not a bad point?

For me, the biggest downside to the Trident, is the weight of the 43mm version when on the bracelet. It's fine on leather though...

Another, lesser issue for me is the thickness of the 600 version. I prefer the mk1 300 autos or the current quartz 300s in that respect. Personally, I'd be happy if the current autos dropped back to 300m WR and shaved a couple of mm off the height.

Another one. The 38/43 sizes are too far apart.

A 38/41/44 size range would be ideal, but 38/40.5/43 would also work. :)

Polished center links on the bracelet. Brushed finish would make these look a lot better.

I'd agree with Scott on both his points.
Better to judge the new logo in hand than off photos. I own both and they look superb, the newer logos giving off a more casual vibe.

Back to topic ... the polished areas look good, but they are smudge and scratch magnets (as are most polished surfaces). IMO the C60 would be improved by brushing the polished surfaces and having polished chamfered edges on the case.

Echoing others above, better anti-reflective coating (mainly black dial variants) and lume is pretty average (not a concern for me), other than that, it is one of my favourite looking dive watches on the market, regardless of price.

1) Maybe the difficulty to find one with the bezel centered spot on. Of the four I own, only one is perfect regarding this point.
2)

It's even more noticeable in the 38mm version, the ones I can wear, but anyway I have a 38mm Seiko that feels taller in the wrist comparing to te C60s. The sloping bezel in the C60 helps a lot to reduce this issue.

3) To have to go to another thread in order to tell you how much I like these watches.

4) The bracelet polished center links. Not too big an issue for me as I usually don't wear any watches on bracelet.

The logo?: I own both versions, V2 and the current infamous V3, and I like both. Not so the twin flag logo on the crown, too much tissotlike to my taste, but I can live with it.
The guilloche wave on the dial: although I love it (maybe this statement should be moved to the "like" thread  ) I feel it should have a greater wavelength as currently is difficult to see the waves instead a vertical stripped pattern depending of the light's incidence. It's more noticeable in the darker dials, being OK in the white ones.

The Polished lugs are scratch magnets. The centre links are too blingy, hence I have had them brushed.

The height on the 43 600 isn't an issue for me (even with small 6.5" wrist) and mine has the SH21 movement so 15.5mm

Lume is just about OK.

Prefer v2 logo but not seen v3 in the flesh

Judging by social media comments, the logo is one of the worst things.
I tend to agree.

And your own opinion after seeing it on the wrist?
Mind you, I don't consider it an improvement over the V2 one, but I see these media comments as an autofeeding trend.
I prefer myself the V2 but I don't dislike at all the V3

Sticking to my normal rule of not criticising watches that I have neither owned or tried on:

My view, formed having tried on a CW with the logo left justified at 9 is - I didn't like it! :)

I appreciate that other views are available - all perfectly acceptable.

Whilst I may prefer if there was a 40mm version, rather than the 43mm, I do understand why the 43mm Trident Pro 600 is a top seller for CW.
